Santiago.– The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Víctor (Ito) Bisonó, urged the United States this Wednesday to take a more active role in the crisis facing Haiti, with the aim of contributing to the restoration of stability in the neighboring nation.

In that sense, he asked the United States, as the world's leading power, to seek ways to be more present in Haiti and support the actions of the Kenyan forces, as well as to continue to convene other countries that can contribute to pulling Haiti out of the deep economic, political, and social crisis that has persisted in recent years.

Bisonó referred to the issue regarding the recent statements by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The Dominican official highlighted the importance of peace and development in Haiti, not only for the benefit of its population, but also for its impact on the economic and security interests of the Dominican Republic.

Likewise, the minister pointed out that a stable Haiti would allow its citizens to "stay there, work in peace, increase their purchasing power and even buy more in the Dominican market".

On the other hand, he also addressed the migratory issue, reaffirming the need for the Constitution and laws on this matter to be respected in the Dominican Republic.

The minister advocated for progress towards an orderly model of labor migration that allows for the identification of areas where the country requires Haitian labor, always within the legal framework.
