Trump and Elon Musk smooth out differences after phone conversation

Washington. – United States President Donald Trump and magnate Elon Musk held a phone conversation on Monday night with the aim of easing tensions between the two, according to US media reports this Wednesday. The call, which originated at Musk's initiative, took place after the businessman spoke privately last Friday with Vice President JD Vance and with the White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles, in an attempt to resolve the conflict that had arisen after disagreements over the fiscal and budgetary project promoted by the Republican administration. According to The New York Times, these conversations culminated in a statement from Musk published this Wednesday on his social network X, in which he regretted some of his recent messages directed at Trump, admitting that "they went too far".

Although Musk had given signs of wanting to reconcile for several days, Trump remained indifferent, assuring that "he wasn't even thinking about him." However, according to the New York newspaper, advisors from both sides were discreetly working to achieve a de-escalation of the conflict. Until the end of May, Musk had been one of Trump's closest allies within the White House, particularly in his role in the Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE). However, his resignation from the position and his criticisms of the tax plan approved by the House of Representatives strained the relationship between the two. The situation worsened when Trump threatened to review federal contracts awarded to Musk's companies, especially the aerospace company SpaceX. However, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt assured this Wednesday that said review has not been carried out. Leavitt also confirmed that the former president positively valued the businessman's gesture: "Trump acknowledges and appreciates Elon's statement this morning. We remain focused on the issues of the American people," the official briefly stated.
