Santo Domingo.- Faced with the resurgence of hostilities between Israel and Iran, the Government of the Dominican Republic announced this Saturday the temporary closure of its embassy in Tel Aviv, as a precautionary measure to protect diplomatic and consular staff stationed in the Middle East country.
The decision was communicated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) through an official statement, which confirms that both the ambassador and the officials and employees of the legation are safe and will continue their work remotely.Read more: Mirex appoints new foreign service officials
"Following the declaration of emergency issued by the State of Israel throughout its territory, we inform that the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Tel Aviv has temporarily closed its doors. Our diplomatic and administrative staff is working remotely from their homes," states the statement.
The document also reports that, due to the measures taken by the Israeli authorities, including the closure of airspace, the Dominican community in Israel is recommended to stay in their homes and have a safe shelter identified in case of emergencies. To ensure assistance to Dominican citizens in Israeli territory, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has enabled a direct line, available for calls, text messages, and WhatsApp, with the aim of channeling support in possible critical situations. The measure is taken in a context of high regional tension, following several days of intense military clashes and widespread alerts in Israel. The international community observes with growing concern the possibility of a further escalation in the conflict.
