The new electronic passport will have an encrypted chip, advanced physical security, and laser personalization. Santo Domingo.– The General Directorate of Passports announced that it is advancing in the implementation of the new biometric passport, which is being developed under a self-financing model that will not involve expenses for the national budget, since the State only pays for each booklet issued, not for the technology. The technological project is in charge of the EMT consortium, who presented the advances during the thematic lunch "Beyond the document: The new identity republic", aimed at media outlets. MIDAS Dominicana, responsible for the design, integration, and operation of the system, highlighted that the new document complies with the security standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Carlos Montás, executive vice president, emphasized that the project demonstrates the potential of national technical talent and consolidates alliances with global leaders to ensure a robust and reliable solution.

"Es un modelo eficiente, transparente y sin costo presupuestario", destacó Montás.

The EMT consortium is composed of MIDAS Dominicana, responsible for technological integration and local operation; Thales, which provides the software infrastructure and passport production; and Entrust, in charge of industrial printers and chip engraving. IXLA also participates, for personalization at decentralized points, and CECOMSA, as technological and data center support. The biometric passport includes a chip with encrypted information, physical security elements, and components printed with laser technology. This new format will improve migration controls, reduce the risk of identity theft, and facilitate the international mobility of Dominicans. The implementation of the new document contemplates a network of care centers for the capture of biometric data, secure issuance and digital registration.
