The trial of rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs told in eight keys

New York.- The rapper Sean Combs, known as 'Diddy', was acquitted today of the most serious charges he faced and found guilty of only two counts of "transportation for the purpose of prostitution", ending an eight-week trial that has attracted a crowd of onlookers and media to the court every day.

These are the main keys of the judicial process, which more than thirty witnesses have gone through, all called by the Prosecution (the defense did not summon any witnesses).

1- The Rapper's Double Face

The prosecutors, a group made up of six women, tried unsuccessfully to prove that when the cameras were turned off, 'Diddy' "ran a criminal enterprise" in which his employees "knew they had to say yes to everything." But their witnesses did not convince the jury. For his part, Combs' defense acknowledged that his client mistreated his ex-girlfriends, but assured that he did not commit any of the crimes mentioned by the Prosecution and that all intimate relationships he had with his ex-partners were consensual.

2- The "freak offs" or "sex marathons" with prostitutes

The prosecution's three victims in this legal process have been the rapper's former girlfriends, Cassie Ventura and a woman who testified under the generic pseudonym Jane Doe, as well as one of his former employees, Mia. The fourth victim listed in the indictment ultimately did not appear before the court, after the prosecution informed the judge in the case, Arun Subramanian, that they did not know their whereabouts. In their testimonies, Ventura and Jane Doe accused the rapper of forcing them to participate in "sex marathons" with strippers or sex workers, which Combs himself called "freak offs", "hotel nights" or "wild king nights". The "freak offs" could last for days in which both victims were kept awake thanks to the drugs provided by 'Diddy', a cocktail of substances that included cocaine, MDMA and ecstasy, among others. Ventura and Jane Doe claimed that in these acts, choreographed to the millimeter by 'Diddy', there was always a large amount of lubricant and baby oil. Some videos of these encounters, recorded by Combs himself while masturbating, were shown to the twelve members of the jury.

3- Was it a criminal enterprise? Not proven

In the most important charge the singer faced - and which could have cost him life in prison - he has been found not guilty of leading a criminal enterprise in which, with the help of his workers, he allegedly committed crimes such as sexual trafficking, human trafficking, and kidnapping for two decades. It remains unproven then that there was a "co-conspirator", his then head of assistants, Kristina Khorram, who was supposedly in charge of booking the hotel rooms where the "freak offs" took place, who facilitated the transfer of prostitutes between cities and who helped 'Diddy' bribe an Intercontinental Hotel worker in Los Angeles to hide the video in which the rapper brutally beats Ventura.

4- The famous people named in the trial: from Michael B. Jordan to Prince

Before the start of the trial, there was great anticipation among the public to know which celebrities would have been involved in Combs' "sex parties". However, the famous people mentioned in the process were simply tangentially related to the accused or his inner circle. For example, the Prosecution named Michael B. Jordan in court because he had a romantic relationship with Ventura that enraged Combs. Prince's name was also mentioned in court when Ventura said she went to a party hosted by the artist without telling 'Diddy', who hit her when he found out. And similarly, Ventura's 21st birthday party was mentioned, which was attended by celebrities such as Britney Spears or Dallas Austin.

5- The video of the assault on Ventura

Beyond the victims themselves, another undeniable protagonist emerged in the trial: the viral video in which Combs is seen hitting Cassie Ventura at the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles in 2016. In the images, the rapper, with a towel tied around his waist, throws his victim to the ground and begins to kick her on the ground while she remains motionless. In his subsequent court testimony, Ventura indicated that at that moment he was trying to flee a "freak off".

6- A lawsuit settled with 20 million dollars

In a moment of his testimony, Ventura, who had sued the rapper in 2023, revealed that 'Diddy' paid him 20 million dollars to settle the lawsuit. But, emphatically, the victim stated that even so, she appeared before the court because she could not "bear the guilt and shame any longer" and wanted to "do the right thing".

7- Kid Cudi's car and a Molotov cocktail

The name of another famous rapper, Kid Cudi, who testified for the prosecution, was mentioned numerous times during the trial. In court, Cudi claimed to believe that 'Diddy' was behind the explosion of his car in 2012, when he was briefly romantically involved with Ventura, although there is no evidence of this. A former assistant of 'Diddy', Capricorn Clark, testified that Combs forced her, at gunpoint, to accompany him one day to Cudi's house after claiming that he "was going to kill him." Some time later, Cudi's vehicle exploded.

8- Combs' Support in Court

Combs has received great support from his mother and six of his seven children, who have attended the court on multiple occasions. So, 'Diddy' would enter the room every day and stand in front of the audience to blow a kiss and greet his loved ones with a hand on his heart. The controversial rapper Ye -also known as Kanye West-, also showed his support for 'Diddy' and a few weeks ago attended the court, where he sat in one of the alternative rooms open to accommodate the large demand from the public. Despite the seriousness of the charges against him, Combs has also had multiple fans in the court, who in the rooms alternate to the main one were dedicated to questioning out loud the arguments of the Prosecution.
