Santo Domingo.– A total of 96 Dominicans were repatriated from the United States, as part of the mass deportations being carried out by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). With this new figure, the number of nationals returned to the country so far this year rises to 1,503.
Most of those returned were serving sentences in US prisons for crimes such as drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons, forgery, fraud, robbery, and assault. Others were arrested in immigration raids in various cities, such as New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, and Philadelphia. You may be interested in: They celebrate the 2025 International Immigration Conference in the country
The group arrived at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) on a chartered plane and was received by federal agents, who handed them over to personnel from the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) and the Specialized Corps for Airport Security (CESAC). Subsequently, they were transferred to the Migration Reception Center in Haina, where the screening processes are carried out before being handed over to their families. Reports indicate that many of those detained had entered the United States irregularly through the border with Mexico.
