Power outages continue: Punta Catalina has no date for re-entry into the electrical system

Santo Domingo.- The entry to the electrical system of the Punta Catalina plant does not have a scheduled reentry date because repairs are still in progress, the company announced today in a press release. Unit two of the Punta Catalina Electric Generation Company (EGEPC) was caused by a technical failure, and is the cause of the blackouts affecting a large part of the Dominican population.

Yesterday, the executive vice president of Egepc, Celso Marranzini, announced that the electrical service would be normalized before the weekend, the date on which it was planned to correct the problem in the plant's boiler, which provides 300 megawatts to the system. EGEPC detailed that the damaged pipe has already been removed and progress is being made in the preparation of the replacement part. At the same time, thickness measurements are being taken on nearby pipes to assess their condition and prevent future failures.
