Ten years in prison for two police officers for aggravated robbery

Santo Domingo. - After accepting the request of the Public Ministry, the Fourth Collegiate Tribunal of Santo Domingo Oeste sentenced two police officers to 10 years in prison for assaulting a freight transport driver from a private company at gunpoint, in an event that occurred on February 5, 2022, in the municipality of Pedro Brand. Prosecutors Francheska Alcántara and Nicasio Pulinario presented during the trial various pieces of compelling evidence, which proved decisive for the court to issue the sentence against the defendants José Alberto Gil de León and Darién Antonio Almonte Veras. The file, prepared by prosecutor Jhony Alberto Germán Mateo, details that on the day of the events, the victim was traveling in a truck loaded with merchandise at kilometer 30 of the Duarte highway, bound for San Francisco de Macorís. In her testimony, the victim explained that the accused fired twice at the vehicle, forcing him and his assistant to stop and get out of the truck, which was stolen by those now convicted. Subsequently, they removed from inside the vehicle 218 boxes of Crisol brand cooking oil, 15 boxes of whiskey of different brands, cell phones, tools and cash.

Judges Julio de los Santos Morla, Clara Yoselin Rivera Franco, and Leonarda Quezada Belén sentenced the accused for violating articles 265, 266, 379, 381, 382, 383, and 385 of the Dominican Penal Code, as well as articles 66 and 67 of Law 631-16 on Weapons, Ammunition, and Related Materials. The condemned must serve their sentence in the public prison of La Vega province, located in the north of the country.
