Dominican and US authorities tour Dominican-Haitian border

Dajabón. – Within the framework of bilateral cooperation in security and defense, the Minister of Defense of the Dominican Republic, Lieutenant General Carlos A. Fernández Onofre, ERD, and the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Joseph M. Humire, conducted a strategic tour of the main military installations on the Dominican-Haitian border, from Manzanillo to Dajabón. During the visit, of high strategic relevance, the Undersecretary of Defense received detailed information from the Minister of Defense, the general commander of the Army, Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, ERD, and the director of the CESFRONT, Brigadier General Jose Rodríguez Coste, ERD., about the operations that the Armed Forces and state agencies have in place in the area to confront threats such as drug trafficking, the illicit trafficking of people and goods, as well as other transnational security challenges.

The tour allowed the senior U.S. official to gain a clearer and more direct view of the complexity of the border and the interagency dynamics involving the Army, CESFRONT, and other dependencies of the Armed Forces, in coordination with other competent agencies. The presence of the Undersecretary of Defense on the border reinforces the shared commitment of both governments to continue working as strategic partners to ensure border security, regional stability, and the economic and social development of the island.
