UCE awards 50 full scholarships to academically excellent young people

Nearly 8 thousand scholarships awarded in the last 15 years

San Pedro de Macorís. – The Universidad Central del Este (UCE) held a scholarship award ceremony for the UCE Excellence Program, recognizing the effort and dedication of more than 50 young people who completed high school with an outstanding academic index of 95 points or more, who will begin their university studies with the support of a 100% scholarship. With this new installment, the institution reaffirms its commitment to providing high-quality and accessible higher education, continuing the legacy of its founder, Dr. José Hazim Azar, who conceived the university with the vision that talent and academic preparation should never be limited by economic reasons.
Throughout its 55-year history, UCE has set a precedent in the country, with between 35% and 40% of its student enrollment benefiting from scholarships funded with the institution's own funds. In the last 15 years alone, the university has awarded 7,981 scholarships in different programs, representing an investment that exceeds 900 million pesos.
You can also read: The UCE Excellence Program is developed each year with an average of 75 scholarships: 50 in the September-December period, 15 in January-April and 10 in May-August. To this are added the cultural and sports scholarships, which support students who are members of the university's representative teams and groups, such as baseball, softball, folkloric ballet and university choir; as well as the administrative ones, intended for employees of the institution and their direct relatives. Among the careers with the highest number of beneficiaries, Medicine, Law, Industrial Engineering, Dentistry, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Bioanalysis, and Administration Sciences stand out. The Faculty of Health Sciences concentrates the highest percentage of scholarship students, representing 42% of all scholarships awarded in the last 15 years.

“This program is a tangible way of how UCE positively impacts society, giving hundreds of young people the opportunity to access excellent university education and become professionals who transform their environment,” expressed the rector, maestro José Altagracia Hazim Torres, during the event.

With this effort, the Universidad Central del Este strengthens a legacy of more than five decades, connecting generations with an educational model that transcends and transforms lives.
