Government expands 911 System coverage with the start of operations in Pedernales

Pedernales. – The Dominican government launched this Monday the National Emergency and Security Assistance System 911 in the province of Pedernales, with the purpose of guaranteeing medical assistance, citizen security and an effective response to any emergency situation. The inaugural event took place at the Municipal Multipurpose Hall of Pedernales and was led by the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, who also chairs the National Council of 911, accompanied by the executive director of the 911 System, Colonel Randolfo Rijo Gómez, ERD, and other local and national authorities.

“Today we are putting into operation a system in which more than 30 government institutions converge around an essential purpose: to save lives. The 911 has been consolidated in a large part of the national territory and today it reaches Pedernales, not only for its tourist development, but also for the quality of its inhabitants,” Paliza highlighted.

The official added that, from now on, residents and visitors of the province will have access to permanent out-of-hospital care with the coordinated support of the institutions that make up 911.

For his part, Colonel Rijo Gómez highlighted that with the incorporation of Pedernales, the system reaches 26 provinces and covers 93% of the national population, which represents more than 9.4 million people with access to this service.

"Pedernales now has ambulances, fire trucks, vans and highly trained personnel to provide timely assistance, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This translates into peace of mind for families, trust in communities and better conditions for the development of the province," said Rijo.

Retired Major General Juan Manuel Méndez García, ERD, director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the Directorate of Extrahospital Emergency Care Services (DAEH), reported that the province has 13 new and equipped ambulances, with mostly local personnel. Each ambulance will have a team of 12 people to guarantee complete shifts and continuous coverage.

A comprehensive effort for security and tourism

The 911 System coordinates the response of institutions such as the National Police, the DAEH, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), the General Directorate of Traffic and Ground Transportation Safety (DIGESETT) and the fire departments, in addition to 25 other liaison organizations. This institutional framework not only seeks to guarantee the safety and health of the local population, but also to provide confidence to the developing tourism sector in the Southern region, strengthening the image of Pedernales as a safe destination.
