U.S. Attorney's Office seeks 11 years in prison for P. Diddy

Prosecutors involved in the federal trial against American rapper Sean Diddy Combs, better known as P. Diddy, have requested the judge in the case to sentence him to "no less than 135 months" in prison, which is equivalent to 11 years, according to a plea of 164 pages filed this Tuesday by the federal government.

The requested sentence includes the payment of a $500,000 fine, the document specifies, where prosecutors indicate that Combs deserves a "considerable" prison sentence because "he does not repent". "Although it seems incredible, the defendant, who throughout the trial acknowledged his acts of violence and abuse, now claims that the fault lies with his victims." The final sentence of Combs, found guilty in July of misdemeanor charges related to transportation for prostitution, is scheduled for this Friday, October 3rd. His legal team advocated last week in a letter for a light sentence, of no more than 14 months, pointing out that he has already served 13 months in pre-trial detention after being denied bail of 50 million dollars.

What is Diddy accused of?

The 55-year-old artist was found guilty of two misdemeanors, related to transportation for prostitution, but was acquitted of more serious charges regarding sex trafficking and conspiracy for extortion, which could have earned him a life sentence. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and is expected to appeal his conviction. Two ex-girlfriends of Combs testified that they were assaulted physically and threatened with the cessation of financial support if they resisted participating in the encounters. One of them, Cassandra 'Cassie' Ventura, a key figure in the case, submitted a letter to support the arguments put forward by the prosecutors this week, in which she declared that "the sentence should reflect the reality of the evidence and my experience as a victim".

Combs' lawyers alleged that there is no direct relationship between what is called domestic violence and the participation of women in the parties known as 'freak-offs', sexual marathons with men hired for the occasion.
