ILO discusses possible international regulation for work on digital platforms

The International Labour Organization (ILO) discusses within its framework and tripartite bodies, a possible international regulation for digital platform workers such as Uber and Pedidos Ya, as well as for those in social networks and influencers.

This was revealed to De Último Minuto by Fabio Bertranou, Deputy Regional Director of the ILO for Latin America and the Caribbean.

"Certainly, digital platforms are an important opportunity for the labor insertion of many young people and migrant workers," Bertranou considered.

He explained that what the ILO is trying to do is to accompany countries so that they can find a way to regulate the insertion into the social security system and to level the benefits of those digital platform and social media workers to those of traditional workers.

"Algorithms and digital platforms are of course a great opportunity and a great tool to facilitate that labor income, but we also have to ensure the working conditions of these people," she said.

These statements were offered within the framework of the 20th American Regional Meeting (ARM 2025) of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which is being held from October 1 to 3 in Punta Cana.

The event is attended by ministers and senior representatives from 24 countries in the Americas.
