Santo Domingo.- Dominican Airports XXI (Aerodom), concessionaire of Las Américas International Airport, reported that air operations to and from the Dominican Republic are maintained with total normality, despite the alert issued by the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus.
As explained by Luis José López, head of Communications for the concessionaire, no cancellations had been registered until the evening of this Friday. However, he warned that several airlines have reported the possibility of future disruptions. The global warning issued by Airbus recommends immediate maintenance for about 6,000 aircraft of the A319, A320 and A321 series, after detecting that extreme solar radiation could compromise flight systems. The measure is taken after the incident that occurred on October 30 on flight 1230 of the American airline JetBlue, whose A320 experienced a sharp descent and had to make an emergency landing in Tampa, with 15 passengers medically evaluated. Although Airbus assures that it was an isolated case, the maintenance recommendation seeks to guarantee operational safety amid an unusual increase in solar activity. You can also read: Aerodom has not paid a US$5MM fine
American Airlines reported that it will have to intervene in about 340 aircraft, which could generate delays in the coming days, while they work to avoid cancellations in the middle of the return season for travelers. For its part, Delta Air Lines indicated that less than 50 aircraft from its A321 fleet are affected and that the update work will conclude tomorrow Saturday. Airlines such as United Airlines and Southwest Airlines do not present an impact on their operations, as they do not operate models included in the alert.Internationally, Air France canceled 35 flights this Friday, most from Paris, as part of the preventive measures applied to the A320 family.
Meanwhile, Aerodom reaffirms that the country continues to operate normally, although it remains attentive to any operational adjustments that airlines may announce in the coming hours.
