Intrant will conduct visual vehicle inspections during the Safe Christmas 2025 operation

Santo Domingo.– The National Institute of Transit and Terrestrial Transportation (Intrant) reported that it will carry out more than 10,000 visual vehicle inspections of buses, minibuses, family vehicles and, as a novelty, cargo transport units, nationwide, as part of the Conciencia por la Vida: Navidad Segura y Año Nuevo 2025-2026 operation, with the aim of strengthening the prevention of traffic accidents during the Christmas season. The inspections will be carried out by more than 160 inspectors from the institution's General Inspectorate, who will be deployed in the 32 provinces of the country, covering 158 transport companies, including public, private, and cargo transport operators that offer services during this period of high mobility. These actions are part of the institutional strategy aimed at guaranteeing minimum safety conditions in the transport units that circulate on national roads, in accordance with the guidelines established by the Executive Directorate of INTRANT. As a complementary measure, INTRANT will apply 1,000 random drug tests to drivers of public transport, private transport and cargo transport, in coordination with the Dominican Red Cross, as part of the Tránsito+Limpio program, aimed at promoting responsible driving and free of substances that compromise road safety.

During the inspection days, the inspectors will be accompanied by agents from the General Directorate of Road Safety and Ground Transportation (DIGESETT), who will proceed in accordance with current regulations in cases where non-compliance with the established safety standards is detected.

About the inspection operation

The operation will take place from December 18 to 30, as part of the preventive actions implemented during the Christmas period, characterized by a significant increase in vehicular mobility nationwide. The planning contemplates an inspection target higher than that achieved in previous Christmas operations, strengthening the scope and capacity of institutional supervision and integrating for the first time, in an expanded manner, cargo vehicles, given their high intercity circulation during this season. The operation includes the inspection of essential elements for vehicle safety, including the proper functioning of the lighting system, the condition of the tires, the state of the mirrors, windows and bumpers, as well as the availability of mandatory safety devices, such as emergency triangles, fire extinguisher and first aid kit. As part of the established preventive controls, doping tests, alcohol tests, and medical evaluations will be applied to drivers, with the aim of ensuring that transport units, including cargo units, are operated in adequate health and fitness conditions for driving.
