Brussels considers Chinese provisional tariffs on EU dairy products "unjustified"

The European Commission considered this Monday that the provisional tariffs that China will impose on certain dairy products from the European Union are "unfair and unjustified" since Beijing's investigation that has led to their adoption is based on "questionable allegations and insufficient evidence". The EU's trade spokesman, Olof Gill, explained that the European Commission has taken note "with concern" of China's decision to impose provisional anti-subsidy tariffs, which would range from 21.9% to 42.7%, as announced by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. The European Commission is examining this preliminary decision and will send its comments to the Chinese authorities since the deadline for concluding the investigation and imposing definitive measures ends on February 21, 2026, it added.

"We are doing everything possible to defend European farmers and exporters, as well as the Common Agricultural Policy from China's unfair use of trade defense instruments," the spokesman said at the Commission's daily press briefing.
