DNCD seizes more than 783 thousand grams of drugs and 31 weapons in April

Santo Domingo.– The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) reported that during the month of April it seized more than 783 thousand grams of narcotics and took 31 illegal firearms out of circulation, as part of the operations against micro-trafficking carried out jointly with the Public Ministry and the Joint Task Force (FTC). Authorities indicated that in that period, 242 raids and multiple interventions were carried out in different parts of the country, resulting in the arrest of 3,919 people linked to drug distribution networks.

According to the report, during the operations 502,319 grams of alleged cocaine, 266,736 grams of marijuana, 13,192 doses of crack, 817 grams of hashish, 15.50 grams of tusi and 596 ecstasy pills were seized. In addition to narcotics, authorities seized 31 firearms, 83 bladed weapons, 24 vehicles, and 145 motorcycles allegedly used in illicit activities.

In the operations, 1,152 cell phones, 140 communication radios, three bulletproof vests, 535 scales, and cash in pesos and foreign currencies were also seized. The DNCD explained that these actions are part of a strategy based on intelligence and inter-institutional coordination to attack drug distribution points in vulnerable neighborhoods and sectors.

The interventions were carried out in the National District, Santo Domingo and different provinces of the North, South and East regions of the country. Authorities reaffirmed that they will continue to strengthen operations against micro-trafficking and organized crime, with the aim of reducing violence and reinforcing citizen security.
