Berlin reiterates that it is Greenland, an autonomous part of Denmark, that decides its future

The German Government reiterated this Monday that the future of Greenland is in the hands of the Greenlanders and that the territorial integrity of Denmark is indisputable, when commenting on the appointment last night by the American president, Donald Trump, of a special envoy for that Arctic island. "The future of Greenland is in the hands of the Greenlanders and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark, of which Greenland is an autonomous part, as are the Faroe Islands, is indisputable and remains valid," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Kathrin Deschauer at a regular press conference. He added that the German government has taken note of this new announcement and assured that the Executive's position has not changed at all in this regard.

The new U.S. special envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, clarified in a message on X that he will combine this "voluntary position" with that of Governor of Louisiana, and said that his mission will be to "make Greenland part of the U.S." Trump announced Landry's appointment on his social network Truth and stated: "Jeff understands how essential Greenland is to our national security, and he will strongly promote the interests of our country for the security and survival of our allies and, in fact, of the world. Congratulations, Jeff!".
