Russian hypersonic system Oréshnik enters service in Belarus

The Russian ballistic missile system "Oreshnik" has entered service in Belarus, where a solemn ceremony was held this Tuesday in which the flag of the Strategic Designation Missile Troops of Russia was raised. Before assuming combat service, specialists in launching, communications, security, and energy supply, as well as mechanical drivers, received additional training. "Daily and weekly combat training, tactical training, and tactical-special training are conducted," said an officer, highlighting that the personnel "have demonstrated their professionalism in practice." Unprecedented missile system The Oréshnik is a new Russian intermediate-range ballistic missile capable of reaching hypersonic speeds of up to Mach 10, about 3 kilometers per second. Its range varies between 800 and 5,500 kilometers. The power of a massive attack with the Oréshnik can be equivalent to that of a nuclear attack: everything found at the epicenter of the explosion is divided into fractions and turned into dust.

The first operational use of this weapons system was recorded on November 21, 2024, when it precisely destroyed the Ukrainian Yuzhmash plant, one of the largest industrial complexes inherited from the Soviet era. Hours later, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the new Oreshnik missile had been used in that action.

"One of the newest Russian intermediate-range missile systems was tested in combat conditions. In this case, with a ballistic missile in a non-nuclear hypersonic equipment," Putin announced. According to the Russian president, "there is no possibility of shooting down these missiles."
