Civil Defense reinforces operation in the second phase of the preventive plan for the end of the year in Santiago

Santiago.- In the framework of the second phase of the preventive plan for the end-of-year festivities, the Dominican Civil Defense intensified its security operation in Santiago from this Wednesday, December 31, with the deployment of more than 3,500 volunteers located on the main roads and strategic points of the province, with the aim of reducing accidents and guaranteeing a rapid response to any emergency.

The reinforcement of the device contemplates permanent presence in high-traffic corridors such as the Duarte highway, Joaquín Balaguer avenue and Del Sol street, as well as in other places previously identified within the security plan designed for the end of 2025. The provincial director of Civil Defense, Francisco Arias, explained that these actions respond to an integral strategy aimed at preventing traffic accidents, timely attention to risk situations, and protecting the lives of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians during the holiday. He reiterated the call not to drive under the influence of alcohol, to use seat belts, and to respect the established speed limits. Similarly, he insisted that children should travel in the back of vehicles and be properly secured, while motorcyclists should wear protective helmets and refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages, one of the main causes of road accidents. Authorities reported that the operation is carried out in coordination with the National Institute of Transit and Terrestrial Transportation (Intrant) and the General Directorate of Traffic and Terrestrial Transportation Safety (Digesett), supervising that light and heavy vehicles circulate with the regulatory permits. Civil Defense also reiterated the ban on firing shots into the air during New Year's celebrations, warning that this practice can cause irreparable tragedies when projectiles fall in residential areas or public spaces. Regarding fireworks, the institution warned about the dangers of their handling, especially by children, and reminded that only entities authorized by the Ministry of Interior and Police can grant permits for their use. The organization highlighted that, while a large part of the population prepares to welcome the New Year, hundreds of Civil Defense volunteers and technicians remain active in the streets, ready to provide immediate assistance in the event of any eventuality. The relief organization wished a Happy New Year to all citizens and urged them to celebrate responsibly, to welcome January 1, 2026 in an atmosphere of peace, security, and harmony.
