Russia thwarts an attack with 66 Ukrainian drones, seven headed for Moscow

Moscow.- Russian air defenses shot down 66 Ukrainian drones overnight, of which seven were heading towards Moscow, the Russian Defense Ministry reported via Telegram. "Between 23:00 and 07:00 (Moscow time), active air defense systems destroyed 64 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones," the ministerial note pointed out. Most of the drones were intercepted while flying over the regions of Samara (twenty), Voronezh (eight), and Saratov (eight). Seven drones were shot down in the Moscow region, five of which were heading towards the capital. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the downing of two more drones heading towards the city.

Six drones were shot down in Ryazan, another six in Rostov, three in Tula and two in Belgorod, where a missile hit a residential building, injuring two civilians, according to local authorities. Russian defenses also shot down drones in Kursk, Kaluga, Penza, and Tambov. Last New Year's Eve, Russia destroyed 168 Ukrainian drones that attacked several Russian regions , including the city of Moscow.
