SNTP announces 2026 Work Plan including meetings, QR code ID card, and conferences

Santo Domingo.- The National Press Workers' Union (SNTP) announced this Thursday its action plan for the year 2026, with a view to strengthening that organization and defending the labor rights of its members. Manuel Ureña, general secretary of the SNTP, said to strengthen ties with the union's bases, for which they propose to hold the Executive Committee meetings in each branch, starting this month in Baní, Peravia province. Also proposed is the realization of a "socialization" meeting with the members of the SNTP in Pedernales. The union leader announced the digitalization of the SNTP member registry and the issuance of a new ID card with a QR code for greater security and control. He also said that the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) press card is now available, for 38 euros for members who are up to date with their dues.

"In the year that is just beginning, we propose to hold several workshops and conferences with national and foreign experts, which include topics such as "Press Crime" and others. The first one will be held in San Pedro de Macorís," said Ureña. He pointed out that another of the objectives of the current SNTP leadership for this year is the launch of the newspaper "Eco la Voz oficial del SNTP" in digital version, between the months of January or February and physical from March. As a form of recreation, they announced the holding of sporting activities that include national softball and domino tournaments. While for the month of April, Ureña announced the relaunch of the Press Marathon that will take place during Journalists' Week, and for the month of November, the SNTP proposes to organize a Golf tournament. Manuel Ureña announced that a delegation from the SNTP will be present at the World Congress of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) which will take place in France, from May 4 to 7 of this year. The union leader announced the holding of the First National and International Congress on Freedom of Expression and Thought from September 18 to 20 of this year. The general secretary of the SNTP asked all its members to catch up on the payment of their dues and announced the raffle of a vehicle for fundraising.
