DP World and Punta Cana Free Trade Zone strengthen the services of the Air Cargo Hub Punta Cana

Punta Cana, La Altagracia. – DP World in the Dominican Republic and Punta Cana Free Trade Zone (PCFTZ), a company of the Puntacana Group, announced the inaugural flight of Uniworld Air Cargo at the Punta Cana Air Cargo Hub, marking the incorporation of the airline into this multimodal platform managed in partnership by both entities, a milestone that expands the air cargo service offering in the region. In 2022, the two organizations signed a strategic alliance to develop this logistics center, combining DP World's global experience and world-class standards with the strategic position and connectivity of Punta Cana Airport (PUJ). This agreement consolidated the international leadership of both companies, uniting global infrastructure and air connectivity in a single proposal. With the arrival of the new cargo plane, a regular air transport service is initiated, aimed at the movement of goods in transit from South America, Central America, and the Caribbean to Europe. The service will operate with two weekly frequencies —Saturdays and Tuesdays— and will allow the mobilization of an average of 120 tons per month.

The operations will focus on perishable cargo such as flowers and fruits, pharmaceuticals, parcels, and dry cargo. The goods will be connected from Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru with high-frequency commercial flights to cities such as Madrid, Frankfurt, and London, with the possibility of incorporating Canada in the future. "This progress reinforces the strategic vision of both companies: to turn Punta Cana into a key regional connection point, offering greater international connectivity for exporters and importers, more stable and predictable services, and contributing to the dynamization of the economy, increasing competitiveness against other logistics platforms in the region," said Manuel Martínez, CEO of DP World in the Dominican Republic. Punta Cana Air Cargo Hub has a modern infrastructure that guarantees efficiency and speed in cargo handling. In this air cargo terminal, the total volume mobilized as of the end of 2025 reached more than 33,000 tons, including import, export, and transit; which represents a 15% increase compared to 2024. It has approximately 4,000 square meters of cold rooms for perishable products, specialized processes for cargo in transit with reduced transfer times, ramps and direct connections for cargo and commercial flights, as well as security services and specialized equipment for different types of merchandise. "This project marks a milestone for the region, consolidating Punta Cana as a strategic center for innovation and air logistics. With this infrastructure, we not only strengthen international connectivity, but also boost economic development and the generation of quality jobs in the area," said Ebell De Castro, general manager of Punta Cana Free Trade Zone (PCFTZ). Also, Romen González, CEO of UniWorld Air Cargo, emphasized that "the inauguration of this flight from Punta Cana represents much more than the opening of a new route for UniWorld Air Cargo; it is the execution of a strategic vision that positions the Punta Cana Air Hub as a gateway to Europe. This is a significant day for our operation, for our clients and for the human team that makes each flight possible. From Punta Cana we continue to build connections that boost trade, strengthen trust and generate real opportunities for the region." This new service joins the arrival of the first cargo plane in 2024, which allowed the validation of the infrastructure and specialized processes of the terminal, laying the groundwork for the current expansion and the sustained increase in international cargo traffic.
