San Juan,.- The four Haitian women recently found beheaded on the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic had been deported a few months ago from Puerto Rico, within the framework of the raids promoted by the American president, Donald Trump.

"The four had been missing for two weeks. One of them was deported two months ago and the others were deported three months and fifteen days ago", confirmed this Tuesday Leonard Prophil, community leader and spokesperson for Haitians in Puerto Rico, who was contacted by the victims' families to help them find their whereabouts.

Prophil explained that the gangs kidnap women, like these four young women between 27 and 31 years old who were murdered, to "ask for a ransom from their relatives" who live in the United States.

"Leave these people alone already. Deporting these people means condemning them to death," cried the compatriot of the migrants murdered in the Dominican town of Elías Piña, bordering Haiti.

According to Prophil, the women arrived in Puerto Rico in December 2024 and lived in Barrio Obrero and Puerto Nuevo, two neighborhoods with a large migrant population in San Juan. Related to the murder of these women, Dominican authorities reported yesterday that the Army arrested in Elías Piña a Haitian identified as Chin Laduse. Most Haitians and Dominicans cross the Caribbean Sea that separates Puerto Rico from Hispaniola, in boats called 'yolas', risking their lives in search of a future with better opportunities.

"If the Government wants to, let it help these people so they can be legalized because every time they deport a person like that, they are supporting the culture of death," Prophil stated.

Federal authorities conduct raids to detain immigrants in the archipelago, which is a Free Associated State of the U.S., and estimate that there are about 20,000 undocumented immigrants. The Government of Puerto Rico also provided the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with confidential information of about 6,000 undocumented immigrants who registered in the past to obtain driver's licenses.
