Netanyahu begins a visit to the U.S., addressing regional issues with Trump's advisors

Washington.- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Washington on Tuesday for a new official visit to U.S. President Donald Trump, and began the agenda with a meeting with special envoys for Middle East issues. During the meeting, the prime minister and envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner addressed various regional issues of common interest, according to his press office. They also exchanged impressions on the first round of negotiations that US envoys held with Iran last Friday, the same source added.

Netanyahu's Visit to Trump

The meeting took place after Netanyahu arrived at Blair House, the guest residence of the President of the United States, guarded by a large number of Secret Service agents. R Prior to his arrival in the United States, Netanyahu warned that he will present Trump with Israel's perspective "on the basis of negotiations, important principles" which, in his opinion, "are not only for Israel but for all those in the world who desire peace and security in the Middle East." Israel wants Iran to agree not only to limit its uranium enrichment, but also to reduce its ballistic missile program and end any support for militias in the region such as Hezbollah. Iran rejects these demands and says it is only willing to certain limitations to its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

Iran, Key Issue

This afternoon, Trump said that Iran wants "a deal" on nuclear matters and otherwise it would be something "silly", when asked about the subject in an exclusive interview with the Fox network. The leader highlighted the U.S. military presence in the Persian Gulf as a factor of pressure on Tehran and that there is a "huge flotilla" on its way to the region. The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its strike group arrived in the Persian Gulf region on January 26, 2026, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). The US administration described the deployment as a measure of "surveillance and deterrence" against possible actions by Iran and indicated that the sending of a second aircraft carrier is being evaluated if nuclear negotiations with Tehran do not advance.
