In the first game, Philadelphia won 3-2 thanks to an infield single by rookie Justin Crawford, while in the second they sealed the victory 6-5 with a sacrifice fly by Alec Bohm. With these results, the Phillies start with a 3-0 record under interim manager Don Mattingly, showing signs of recovery after an inconsistent start to the season. The second game started strong for the home team, when Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning, a rare occurrence in the franchise's history. Schwarber also continued his great offensive moment after reaching 350 career home runs in the first game of the day. Although Philadelphia's offense had been irregular during the campaign, the team managed to produce at key moments. In the second game, a rally in the fifth inning allowed them to take the lead, with a double by Schwarber and a walk to Bryce Harper that loaded the bases. Subsequently, Cuban Adolis García responded with a timely hit that drove in two runs and put the game in favor of the Phillies. However, the Giants reacted and managed to take the lead in the ninth inning. Far from giving up, Philadelphia responded again at the end of the game. A double by Schwarber tied the actions and set the stage for Bohm's decisive hit, which secured the sweep. It was the first time since 1998 that the Phillies have won two games on the same day, leaving the opponent on the field, in a display of character that could mark a turning point in their season.
