The President of the United States, Donald Trump, meets today with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, who arrived in the North American power amid the escalation of tensions with Iran, with constant threats coming from Washington and Tel Aviv about a possible attack against the Persian nation. Upon his arrival, the Israeli Prime Minister already met with the special envoy of the White House, Steve Witkoff, and advisor Jared Kushner at Blair House, in Washington, where US officials offered him "updated information on the first round of talks they held with Iran last Friday".

US Threats

Tensions between the U.S. and Iran escalated at the beginning of January, following President Trump's threat to proceed with military intervention, initially citing internal protests in Iran as the reason. Although the demonstrations ceased, Washington maintained pressure, redirecting its argument towards Tehran's nuclear and missile programs. Last Friday, the first day of indirect contacts between the US and Iran on the nuclear issue was held in Muscat, Oman. The consultations took place separately, with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and the special envoy of the White House, Steve Witkoff, meeting in turns with the Omani Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, who acted as a mediator. After the meeting, Trump asserted that "Iran seems very interested in reaching an agreement." For his part, Araghchi also described the atmosphere as "positive" and confirmed the willingness to keep the channel of dialogue open. However, from Tehran they have assured on repeated occasions that they are prepared to respond to any "strategic error" by the US with "heavy" blows. In addition, they have warned that a complete cessation of uranium enrichment is "absolutely unacceptable" for the Persian nation.

This Tuesday, the US president announced that he is considering sending a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East, in order to prepare for military action if negotiations with Iran fail. "We have a Navy heading there and another could be on its way", Trump said.
