A man kills his mother in Italy and hides the body in the forest to collect her pension

Rome.- The Carabinieri (Italian militarized police) have arrested a man accused of homicide for allegedly killing his mother and burying the body in a forest to hide the body and continue collecting the woman's pension, the Prosecutor's Office reported this Thursday.

The events occurred in mid-January in Piobesi Torinese, a small municipality in Turin (north), when the man, "seriously suspected of the homicide of his own eighty-five-year-old mother" buried her body in a forest near the family home "for fear of losing the only means of support he had, that is, the woman's pension". Police went to the home after a neighbor alerted them, as she had not been able to contact the woman for some time. His son, after trying to explain the absence in a "confusing" way, ended up leading the agents to the place where he had buried her, alleging that he found her dead in the house, according to the Torino Prosecutor's Office.

Following the discovery of the body, the suspect was arrested by the Carabinieri and, during his statements, ended up confessing to the crime and the subsequent concealment of the body at the scene of the discovery. According to local media, the accused initially stated that his mother was traveling, but later changed his version, claiming that he found her dead at home weeks ago and that, after panicking, he buried her in the forest. The Prosecution will request that the suspect's detention be maintained, pending further evidence to help clarify all the details of the crime.
