Sheinbaum confirms an attack against authorities near singer Pepe Aguilar's property

Mexico City.- The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed this Friday the attack that occurred on Thursday night against a convoy made up of members of the security forces, who were near a property of the Mexican singer Pepe Aguilar, in the central state of Zacatecas, and assured that the interpreter's relatives "are fine".

In her daily press conference, the Mexican president detailed that the convoy was attacked because "they passed at that moment through a place", referring to the property of the singer Aguilar, but that "it had nothing to do" with the artist's family.

"They are fortunately all well and from the moment it happened there was communication with them for their protection," he added. Sheinbaum insisted that "by no means" the armed attack was aimed at the Aguilar family, but rather occurred when they passed through the area where the security agents were attacked. Finally, the Mexican president affirmed that the details will be provided "with transparency" by the federal authorities of the Security Cabinet. The attacked officials would be members of the state police and the Mexican Army, according to local media reports. The identity of the attackers is unknown, in an armed aggression in which there were no fatalities. For his part, singer Pepe Aguilar assured in a statement that his family "is fine", and that what happened corresponds to an "operation" by the security forces near his house. "Contrary to what many media outlets are asserting, I am in Mexico City. My family is fine," Aguilar affirmed. Initially, local media reported that the shooting attack had occurred against a convoy of Mexican singers Christian Nodal and Ángela Aguilar while they were traveling from Zacatecas to Mexico City. The Government of Zacatecas confirmed that an armed attack was recorded in the municipality of Villanueva, where the Aguilar family's ranch is located. Meanwhile, the state government's general secretary, Rodrigo Reyes, specified that the incident occurred in the community of Tayahua, on the road to the municipality of Tabasco.
