Santiago. – The Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings, Ito Bisonó, carried out a supervisory tour this Friday of the intervention works on Calle del Sol, in Santiago de los Caballeros, following instructions from President Luis Abinader, with the aim of evaluating the progress of the work, accompanying the urban impact process and supporting the inter-institutional coordination necessary to accelerate its execution.
The intervention is executed by the Presidential Commission for Support to Provincial Development (CPADP), led by Ángel de la Cruz Hernández, the entity responsible for the project.
The tour began at the Plazoleta Raudy Torres, on Las Carreras Avenue corner Benito Monción, and included Benito Monción Street, the Casa de Arte, whose reconstruction is in progress by the CPADP, the entrance to the service tunnel on Benito Monción corner Máximo Gómez and the section under construction of Calle del Sol, from the entrance by Gregorio Luperón in front of the La Altagracia Church.
During the visit, Minister Bisonó was accompanied by the Governor of the province, Mrs. Rosa Santos Méndez, the mayor of Santiago Ulises Rodríguez, part of the technical team responsible for the work, civil and electrical contractors, as well as business and commercial representatives, including ASECENSA, the Strategic Plan of Santiago, APEDI, AIREN and ACIS.
"We are here by instruction of the president, because this is a commitment from everyone. We will be monitoring the schedule day by day so that it is completed in the shortest possible time and with the appropriate quality," said the minister.
As explained, engineers project that, if weather conditions permit, the paving of the two blocks currently under construction could be completed by the end of March. However, he/she pointed out that the priority is for the work to be of the same quality standard as the sections already completed.
Bisonó indicated that permanent coordination is maintained with the executing unit. He detailed that the works include the undergrounding and concatenation of sanitary, electrical, and potable water services, as well as improvements in the filling materials for greater durability.
For their part, local authorities explained that factors such as the high water table, the presence of groundwater, recent rains, and the technical complexity of the service tunnel have affected the pace of progress. Likewise, it was agreed to work in shorter sections to improve control, agility, and the quality of execution.
The minister also held a meeting with representatives of local merchants, to whom he reiterated that the objective is to minimize the effects and maintain security during the works.
"The merchants are an essential part of this process. We want them to be affected as little as possible, but without compromising the quality of the work," he affirmed.
Supervision reaffirms the accompaniment of the Ministry of Housing and Buildings in urban high-impact projects, supporting the inter-institutional coordination necessary to ensure that strategic interventions in historic centers advance with efficiency, safety, and quality.
