World Tourism Resilience Day

Santo Domingo. — February 17th marks World Tourism Resilience Day, a date that highlights the tourism sector's ability to adapt, recover, and thrive in the face of global challenges. This day, established by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), emphasizes the importance of tourism as an economic, social, and cultural engine, and underscores the need to strengthen its resilience against crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, economic crises, and international conflicts.

In the Dominican Republic, tourism is one of the main sources of income, employment, and regional development, with thousands of families directly dependent on this activity. The sector has demonstrated a remarkable ability to adapt and overcome difficulties, maintaining the quality of its services and promoting a unique tourist experience. The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic (MITUR) joins the celebration of World Tourism Resilience Day, reaffirming its commitment to the recovery of the sector and the implementation of sustainable practices that guarantee its long-term growth. In this context, actions aimed at diversifying the tourism offer, the digitalization of services and the strengthening of infrastructure are promoted to face future challenges.

The World Tourism Resilience Day also invites industry players to reflect on how tourism can be a force for good, promoting sustainability, inclusion, and respect for local communities and the environment. Actions within the framework of World Tourism Resilience Day:
  • The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic has launched a series of initiatives to strengthen the resilience of tourist destinations, with special emphasis on sustainability, the protection of natural heritage, and the diversification of the tourism offer.
