Moments of tension were experienced on the morning of this Monday in the vicinity of the Politécnico Manuel María Castillo, where students staged a protest that ended in clashes with police officers.
The demonstration was led by the student movement FER, whose members gathered in front of the educational center to demand from the authorities of the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic the dismissal of the principal, Nicolás Vásquez Rosado, and the president of the Association of Parents, Mothers and Friends of the School (Apmae).

During the protest, the protesters set tires on fire on Nino Rizek street, in the El Capacito sector, which led to the intervention of the Police and the suspension of classes at the educational center. The spokesperson for the student movement, Ángel Luis Reyes, explained that for several weeks they have denounced alleged irregularities in the administration of the polytechnic and lack of responses from the educational authorities. Among the complaints, the leader assured that the principal of the school would be failing to comply with his work schedule, by teaching at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) during the same hours in which he should be fulfilling his administrative functions. Students are also demanding the construction of a school cafeteria, art and chemistry labs, as well as other improvements for the educational center. Reyes warned that the protests will continue until the authorities offer a response to their demands.
