San Salvador.– The State of El Salvador managed to recover assets valued at several million dollars linked to the corruption network of former President Elías Antonio Saca, as part of the judicial processes implemented to return to the country resources obtained illicitly during his administration.
According to Salvadoran authorities, the recovered assets include properties, real estate, and other assets that were associated with the corruption structure that operated during the Saca government, who presided over the country between 2004 and 2009. Confiscations were carried out through asset forfeiture proceedings, a legal mechanism that allows the State to recover assets acquired with funds from illicit activities. Following the court rulings, these assets will officially pass into the hands of the Salvadoran State. The former president was sentenced in 2018 to 10 years in prison after admitting his participation in the embezzlement and laundering of more than 300 million dollars from public funds during his presidential term. This new development is part of El Salvador's efforts to combat corruption and strengthen transparency in public administration.
