UN: "Repressive machinery in Venezuela remains operational" after Maduro's capture

Geneva.- The International Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela, created by the UN, stated this Thursday that "the repressive machinery of the Venezuelan State, established for many years, continues to operate", despite the capture at the beginning of the year of Nicolas Maduro and his wife. As an example of this, he maintained that high-ranking officials and military personnel who were identified in investigations of this same mission as responsible for crimes against humanity continue to hold important positions in the Executive and security forces. Also, "the legal instruments that for years have served as the basis for political persecution remain fully in force", experts pointed out when presenting an oral report on the recent situation in Venezuela to the Human Rights Council, which meets in Geneva.
