AFA President insists that the Finalissima be played in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires. The president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio Tapia, stated this Thursday his preference that the next Finalissima between the Argentina National Team and the Spain National Team be played at the Monumental Stadium and not at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, as has been recently proposed.

Tapia pointed out that the Spanish federation would prefer the match to be played on Spanish territory, but reiterated its desire for the match to be held at River Plate's stadium in Buenos Aires. The Finalissima, which will pit the champion teams of the European Championship and the Copa América against each other, was initially scheduled to be played on March 27 at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar. However, the venue was put in doubt due to the instability in the Middle East following the armed conflict in the region.

Faced with this situation, Real Madrid's stadium emerged as an alternative to host the match, an option that the Spanish club has expressed its willingness to accommodate.

Tapia offered these statements to the press after appearing before the Argentinian justice system in an investigation related to alleged irregularities in the management of pension contributions and other taxes within the organization. Since the beginning of the escalation of war in the region at the end of February, which has caused attacks and counterattacks between several countries, the possibility of holding the match in Qatar has been suspended. Even the Qatar Football Association announced the temporary suspension of its competitions due to the security situation in the country. For his part, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzán, recently informed that the final decision on the venue of the match should be made within 48 hours, as the match is an important part of the preparation of both teams for future international commitments. Meanwhile, uncertainty continues over where the expected duel between the two continental champion teams will be played, with several venues under evaluation by the organizing bodies.
