Mejía highlighted the intense work done during the first round of the tournament, a stage in which the Dominican offense was one of the most productive, scoring 41 runs and allowing only 10 against their rivals. "As always, it has been very intense work, with a lot of energy, concentration and information for the guys," Mejía said, referring to the preparation process that the coaching staff has carried out with the players. The coach also highlighted the work of the analysis and strategy coordinator René Rojas, who, as he explained, has been key in the collection and management of information about the rivals. Facing the match against South Korea, the Dominican coaching staff has worked with "advanced data and scouting reports" to analyze the pitchers of the Asian team, an opponent that the Quisqueyan team did not face during the group stage. "We have staff working on 'scouting' to gather as much information as possible and be able to pass it on to the guys as fresh as possible," he said. Mejía also referred to the performance of some Dominican hitters who are still looking to ignite their offense in the tournament, including Manny Machado, although he assured that the team maintains its usual work routine. "They're very close. They keep doing their daily routine, taking good shifts and working hard. It's a matter of time before everything clicks," he affirmed. The coach also praised the performance of young infielder Junior Caminero, who has been one of the team's offensive figures in the championship. "I'm not surprised by anything Caminero does. He's a special kid, with incredible talent and strength, as well as a great dedication to the game," Mejía highlighted. Dominican Republic will face South Korea in a do-or-die game, in which the winner will advance to the semifinals of the World Baseball Classic.
