Men's handball qualifier starts this Monday at Parque del Este

SANTO DOMINGO. – With the celebration of three matches, this Monday begins the Caribbean Handball Cup, a qualifying event for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, in the renovated Table Tennis Pavilion of Parque del Este.

The tournament, which will run until Saturday, May 2nd, is organized by the Dominican Handball Federation (Fedobalom), presided over by Miguel Rivera. The opening day will begin at 3:00 p.m. with the match between Costa Rica and Cuba. In the second game, Mexico will face Puerto Rico at 5:00 p.m., while the closing of the day will be in charge of the Dominican Republic against Guatemala, at 7:00 p.m. The official opening ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 28th at 6:30 p.m., after the matches between Cuba and Mexico, as well as Puerto Rico against Guatemala. That same day, the schedule will conclude with the match between Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. The Caribbean Cup will also serve as preparation for the Dominican Republic national team for their participation in the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, scheduled from July 24 to August 8. The president of Fedobalom, Miguel Rivera, highlighted that the participating countries will compete to secure their classification to the handball tournament of the regional event, which guarantees a high level of competition. In the qualifier, the selections of Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic will see action, along with Costa Rica and Guatemala as guests, in a contest that promises an attractive sporting spectacle.
