NEW YORK. – The Argentine Football Association announced this Wednesday a technological alliance with Google to incorporate Gemini artificial intelligence into the work of the Argentine national team during the 2026 World Cup.

The presentation took place in Times Square, New York, a few weeks before the start of the World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

As explained by the commercial director of the AFA, Leandro Petersen, the tool will be used by the technical staff for tasks related to injury prevention, tactical analysis, and real-time decision-making.

"The use of this technology will allow us to optimize different aspects of the technical and medical work of the team during the competition," said Petersen, who described the agreement as one of the most important in the history of the Argentine federation.

In addition to supporting the sports staff, Gemini will also offer interactive experiences for fans. Followers will be able to create images, songs, and digital content linked to figures from the national team such as Lionel Messi, with the aim of bringing the World Cup experience closer to those who cannot attend the matches.

For her part, Google's communications director for Latin America, Flor Sabatini, assured that the 2026 World Cup will mark a before and after due to the massive integration of artificial intelligence in football.

"It will be a completely different World Cup than any other. AI will be present for fans, players, and coaching staff," he said.

The next World Cup will be the first men's edition to be held after the global rise of artificial intelligence tools such as Gemini, ChatGPT and other technological platforms.

Argentina will arrive at the tournament as one of the main favorites for the title, after conquering the championship in Qatar 2022 under Messi's leadership.
