The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, reported this Thursday that the construction of the Cabo Rojo International Airport is progressing according to the established schedule and assured that the work will be completed by February 2027.

During a supervisory visit in Pedernales province, the official highlighted that the project, in its mature stage, exceeds 2,000 million dollars in investment, while the first phase approaches 1,000 million dollars.

Prior to the tour, the official held a working meeting with the institutions, entities, contractors, and the private partner of the project, where they discussed the progress of the work on the airfield, runway, taxiway area, drainage, the terminal building, as well as some outstanding points.

"The track will be ready in September. Also, important service components, such as the treatment plant and the electrical station, have already been completed, as well as a large part of the underground system. Many stages and aspects of the work are currently in the final stages of completion," said the minister.

He indicated that the Cabo Rojo International Airport, located in the municipality of Oviedo, will be the main gateway for visitors arriving in the southern region of the country.

Access roads in Cabo Rojo

During his visit, the minister also met with the developers of the Cabo Rojo access roads, who reported that they will be completed in November of this year, as part of the complementary works that strengthen the project, considered one of the most emblematic that will transform the economic and social profile of the region.

Paliza pointed out that the economic dynamism generated by the work is already beginning to be reflected in Pedernales, where new hotels are currently being built, such as the Holiday, which will contribute directly to the economic and tourist strengthening of the area.

Comprehensive development for Pedernales

As part of his agenda in the province, the minister also visited the Rare Earths laboratory in Pedernales, an initiative aimed at harnessing the mining and scientific potential of the area, where he supervised the processing camp for samples extracted from the Ávila Reserve.

As explained, work is currently underway on the processing and monitoring of the samples, and it is expected to reach about 10,000 processed and analyzed by the end of this year.

Likewise, he met with community members, who expressed concerns and approaches regarding the main needs of the demarcation and the impact of the projects being carried out in this locality.

The minister also toured the facilities of the Malecón de Pedernales, where he verified the infrastructure and development work that is part of the tourism and economic boost of the province.

These projects are developed by the Fideicomiso Pro-Pedernales, the entity responsible for executing the comprehensive tourism development project in the area.
