PGASE intensifies fight against electricity fraud with operation in La Altagracia

Santo Domingo. – The Assistant Attorney General for the Electrical System (PGASE), in coordination with the Superintendency of Electricity (SIE), carried out a large-scale operation against electrical fraud in different sectors of the province of La Altagracia, where illegal connections and irregular manipulations in the energy system were detected. During the inspection days, the authorities identified repeat offenders who will be subjected to legal proceedings for alleged violation of the General Electricity Law, due to the damage caused to the national electricity system.

The operations were carried out in the areas of El Hoyo de Friusa, Verón, Downtown and the community of Bávaro, where dozens of interventions were carried out in residences and commercial establishments connected to the energy area administered by the Consorcio Energético Punta Cana-Macao (CEPM).

The head of the PGASE, court attorney José Aníbal Carela, led the actions and assured that the fight against energy theft will be maintained permanently throughout the country. “Electricity theft is an immoral and dishonest practice that affects the whole society. We are working 24/7 to combat this crime. Our goal is clear: to bring to justice anyone who illegally extracts energy”, Carela expressed.

The authorities explained that the interventions were carried out simultaneously in several high-traffic residential and commercial sectors, as part of an ongoing strategy to detect irregularities and strengthen the stability of the electricity supply. Likewise, they urged citizens and business owners to regularize their technical and legal situation to avoid sanctions and possible criminal proceedings. The PGASE reiterated that the operations will continue to intensify in different provinces of the country, warning that electricity fraud not only constitutes a crime, but also represents a risk to the safety of people and the national energy system.
