Bayahíbe.-Dozens of community members demonstrated in Bayahíbe to reject an alleged privatization of a beach in the area, assuring that these spaces should remain open and accessible to the entire population.
During the protest, which brought together men, women, and young people from the community, participants chanted slogans in defense of public access to the beach and demanded the intervention of the authorities. In a video spread on social media, one of the protesters called on the citizenry to support the cause and share the complaints. "Don't privatize it, don't privatize it. Make this video go viral. Don't privatize Bayahíbe beach," expressed the young man, while being supported by dozens of people who repeated the slogans. "This is from the people. This is not from the rich or anything. This is from the people," the young man stated during the demonstration. Likewise, the participants warned that they will continue to take actions to defend access to the beach and assured that they will take their claims to the National Palace in order for the authorities to hear their demands. The protest took place peacefully and was marked by slogans, chants, and calls to preserve public spaces for the enjoyment of all citizens.
