The necessary aid is being provided so that these families can face the emergency," said the official.

The COE director also assured that the government guarantees food and assistance for all citizens affected by the storm, and highlighted that tomorrow at 9 in the morning the alert levels will be reviewed in Gran Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana, with the aim of returning to normal in these areas.

"In the south and southwest of the country, as the system moves, alerts will be maintained and, if necessary, extended to other provinces. Regarding the dams, the INDRHI will be monitoring the situation and we, from the COE, will inform the population in a timely manner," added Méndez.

The official called on the population to follow the instructions of the authorities, maintain prudence and not expose themselves unnecessarily, while the effects of Melissa on the national territory are prolonged.
