Santo Domingo.– Dominican authorities, through the Attorney General's Office (PGR) and the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), with the cooperation of the U.S. Marshals Service, extradited another Dominican citizen accused of methamphetamine trafficking in U.S. territory.
Rafael Alejandro Vargas Taveras was transferred to Las Américas International Airport, JFPG, by specialized units of the DNCD, where he was handed over to US officials. Subsequently, he boarded a commercial flight bound for the United States. Vargas Taveras is wanted by a court in the Southern District of New York, which accuses him of conspiracy to distribute and possess 500 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21 of the United States Code. His extradition was carried out through decree 248-25, after being arrested in a search and capture operation on Rafael Augusto Sánchez street, Evaristo Morales sector, of the National District. The order was issued by the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice. The Dominican Republic has strengthened its international cooperation in the fight against organized crime, and in recent months has extradited and deported dozens of fugitives wanted by the justice systems of different countries.DR hands over another Dominican accused of methamphetamine trafficking in the United States
