Santo Domingo.– The Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, reported this Monday on the progress made in citizen security during the follow-up meeting to the Security Plan, headed by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader. As every week, the heat map was presented with the main incidents that occurred in the national territory, accompanied by updated indicators on crime.
Raful explained that, according to the most recent data, 28 territories in the country maintain homicide rates below double digits, while only six provinces exceed that level. The accumulated homicide rate to date stands at 8.15, reflecting a progressive decrease compared to previous years. You may be interested in: Interior and Police presents a balance with a reduction in homicides
In detailing the trend, the minister indicated that for the same date in 2023 the rate was 11.6, in 2024 it dropped to 9.58 and is currently recorded at 8.15, which shows a sustained decrease in violent events. In numerical terms, she specified that in 2023, 1,257 homicide victims were counted; in 2024, 1,138; and this year, 1,070, which reaffirms the downward trend.
Raful emphasized that, although the figures reflect an improvement, "a single homicide anywhere in the country represents a challenge in terms of citizen security and a tragedy for a Dominican family." In that sense, he assured that the Joint Task Force and security agencies continue to strengthen the investigation of each case, whether related to criminal acts or situations of social conflict. The minister highlighted that these indicators allow for focusing actions in the territories with the highest incidence, while reaffirming the Government's commitment to continue strengthening strategies to guarantee peaceful coexistence and security throughout the country.
