Judge orders detention of communicator Ángel Martínez for verbally assaulting in hearing

Santo Domingo.- The judge of the First Instruction Court of the National District, Raymundo Mejía, ordered the detention of the communicator Ángel Martínez, accused of defamation and insult against the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful. The decision was made after Martínez verbally assaulted the magistrate during the hearing.

As a result, the accused will remain in custody until next Tuesday, the day on which the coercive measure against him will be known at 2:00 in the afternoon. In addition, the judge declared lawyer Percival Peña as a reckless litigant and removed him from the stand. That day, Martinez must be assisted by a lawyer from the Public Defender's Office.

After the hearing, the communicator was transferred under strict security measures to the preventive jail of the Palace of Justice of Ciudad Nueva. As they were taking him out of the court, he shouted: “This is going to have consequences, this is going to have consequences”, accusing the Government and Faride Raful of sending him to prison for abuse of power.
