San Francisco de Macorís. – The Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Duarte province ordered one month of preventive detention, as a coercive measure, against sports leader Amparo Betances, known as “Amparito”, accused of alleged
crimes of abuse and sexual assault against some of his students.
The decision was adopted within the framework of a process that gained momentum after the appearance of multiple testimonies that point to the accused for alleged acts committed against minors belonging to the sports league he directed. According to sources linked to the case, the precautionary measure seeks to guarantee the presence of the accused during the development of the investigation and avoid possible obstructions to the judicial process.
The court ordered that Betances serve preventive detention at the Vista al Valle Correction and Rehabilitation Center, while the Public Prosecutor's Office continues to delve into the collection of evidence and determines whether there are other possible victims willing to formalize complaints that strengthen the accusatory file.
During this period, the prosecuting body indicated that investigations will remain open to establish the scope of the reported events and the corresponding criminal responsibilities.
After the judicial decision was announced, several community members demonstrated outside the courthouse, expressing their rejection of the imposed measure and warning about the possibility of protests in the coming hours.
The case remains under the cognizance of the judicial authorities, while investigations are carried out in accordance with the law.
