Santo Domingo.- The senator for the National District requested that salaries up to RD$52,000 be exempt from taxes, as established by the tax code.

Fernández warned that the General Budget Project of the State for the year 2026, presented by the Government and currently under the knowledge of the National Congress, once again nullifies, for the sixth consecutive year, the indexation of the salary exempt from income tax, which has been set since then at RD$34,685.

It warns that the economy of more than 300,000 Dominican workers is affected by the loss of purchasing power.

"We are talking about a difference of RD$17,244 that is taken directly from the pockets of Dominicans who need it most," denounced the legislator.

"The average cost of the basic basket is RD$46,716 pesos, so with this measure, the Government snatches a basic basket a year from each worker within this salary range," he affirmed.

Finally, the congressman urged the Executive to comply with the law and unfreeze the salary scale exempt from Income Tax, adjusting it to the level that corresponds according to the accumulated inflation.

"What I propose is very simple: that the Government comply with the law. That it give a break to Dominican families who today face the cost of living with fewer and fewer real incomes," concluded Fernández.
