Santo Domingo.– The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, explained this Friday that the visit of the Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, to the National Congress was not the result of a particular concern of the Public Ministry, but rather a part of the socialization process that the Legislative Branch is carrying out with all the actors in the justice system to achieve a more robust and consensual Penal Code.
"It is very important that the country knows that it is not a concern. It was the National Congress that understood that we had to socialize, as we do with each project, with the actors in the system," Pacheco declared, referring to the presence of Reynoso, who remained in Congress for more than five hours yesterday, Thursday. You may be interested in: Labor Benefits Calculator
According to the legislator, the Attorney General has acted as a spokesperson for a set of technical observations and proposals that have already been discussed with other key institutions of the justice system, such as the Public Defender's Office, the National Police, the Attorney General's Office, as well as judges and representatives of the Supreme Court of Justice. Reynoso's visit coincided with the moment when everything was ready for Congress to debate and approve in second reading the bill of the new Penal Code. However, the day took another course, and after the meeting with the official, a delegation of legislators from different parties moved to the headquarters of the Attorney General's Office to continue the discussions. "The goal is to provide the country and the Public Ministry with a better legal instrument to punish crime," Pacheco said.Gateway Timeout
