Paliza and Fernández Onofre visit remote communities on the border

Santo Domingo,.- High authorities toured different communities in the northern border area this Tuesday, as part of the "efforts" of the Government to strengthen security in the area and hear firsthand the needs of its inhabitants.

The ministers of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, and of Defense, Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, visited the community of Tilori, where they observed the commercial dynamics that take place between citizens of the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

At the location, situated on the International Highway that divides both countries in the municipality of Restauración, Dajabón, senior officials were able to observe the exchange of products and the economic activities that are part of daily life in this border area, the Ministry of the Presidency said in a note. "The border is a priority for the Government. Our commitment is to guarantee security, but also to promote development opportunities for the communities that live here," Paliza expressed. Subsequently, the officials moved to the border town of Guayajayuco, in the province of Elías Piña, where they held a meeting with community leaders and local representatives. In the meeting, the community members raised various needs related to infrastructure, basic services, and security conditions. Paliza pointed out that this type of visit allows the authorities to get to know the realities of the population up close and advance concrete solutions. "Listening to the communities is essential to make decisions that really impact their quality of life," he affirmed. The visit was also attended by the general commander of the Dominican Republic Army, Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, and the general director of Migration, Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, among other military and civilian authorities.
