Santo Domingo. – The Women, Children and Family Commission (COMFAM) of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), inaugurated this Tuesday the XXII National Meeting of Women from Political Parties, where it presented a recognition to the ambassador and vice-minister for Dominican Communities Abroad, Celinés Toribio. Ambassador Toribio urged to strengthen female leadership in spaces of power and recalled that "in the 21st century, no woman has ever been at the head of the UN or the OAS, and 113 countries have never had a woman as head of state or government". "I am a product of migration. At 16, my parents left in search of better opportunities, and that experience marked my life forever. I am the one here speaking out, but I come representing all the migrant women of the world who never stop dreaming," expressed Toribio. The event is held under the theme “Women, Migration and Development: Weaving Hope for Central America and the Caribbean”, and sought to generate proposals that will be presented at the Regional Meeting of Women of Political Parties of PARLACEN, on August 28 in Guatemala.
